About the event
For over 200 years, the Erie Canal has been an integral part of Pittsford's economy and community life. The tour will visit Village sites connected with the evolution of the canal and village over the last two centuries. Learn where the community's first "Schoen Place" was located and how the community's underlying geology determined the winding route of the canal through the Village. We will also visit one of the Village's historic immigrant neighborhoods and learn about some of Pittford's key personalities associated with the canal.
The tour will begin at the Veterans Memorial at Carpenter Park, 22 N Main Street. Parking is available on street or in Village public lots. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Dress for the weather; the tour will run rain or shine.
