About the event
In the 1960s, Pittsford experienced its most rapid period of growth resulting in many changes to the Village and Town. Village neighborhoods and several key landmarks were threatened by suburban-style commercial development. Historic Pittsford was organized in 1965 to rescue the circa 1819 Little House when demolition was proposed. Over the last six decades, Historic Pittsford has emerged as one of the community's most important not-for-profit, grassroots community advocacy groups. In addition to fostering Pittsford's strong preservation movement, the organization has advocated for the conservation of farmland and open space, to encourage the redevelopment of historic Schoen Place mill district, for the rediscovery of the recreational potential of the Erie Canal corridor, and the promotion of sustainable walkable planning.
